Two Firsts
October 6, 2013 marks two monumental (well, for me!) firsts of his life: the use of glue gun and microwaving his popcorn.
For their G4 Science individual project, a diorama of aquatic animals, I taught him how to use the glue gun. He was careful not to touch the hot tip as per my instructions.

Excitedly waiting for his first microwave use, his very own popcorn.
My instructions, "Miguel, cook your popcorn for only 3.5 minutes. More than that will burn your popcorn. Okay, set the timer to 3.5 minutes." And he did.

What Am I? and It Isn't Riddles
I can say Moo and give milk too. What am I?
I will melt, so it me fast. When it's hot, I won't last. What am I?
I am round and you hit me with a bat. What am I?

First Confession
Today, September 20, 2013, Miggy actually confessed twice to two different priests. One was here, as shown in the pictures, and the other at the confessional box.
And what sins does a pure and innocent child with autism have?
Timely, a week before his confession, we just read the story "Too Much TV" from the Berenstein Bears Book Series. I told him that too much of anything is bad.
And when he made his list of sins, this was what he came about. Cute!

Making Inferences
A sample of our Mom sessions:
Miggy reads, "After looking at this picture, I can infer that..."
and then he picks the appropriate cards that go with each picture.
He is waiting.
He is staying for a while.
He is going on a trip.
He is excited about his trip.
She likes the color pink.
Maybe she got a new camera.
She likes to take pictures.
She is happy.

Sequencing Events
Perfect scores! Miggy read the short story, recalled what happened in the story and sequenced the events. Another milestone in his speech.

Family Development Session, Baguio Group, HOC-MCCT
Aug. 17, 2013
Here, I'm in one of my lectures as a family counselor for families coping with disabilities. Attendees here are from the Baguio City group. Family Development Sessions are conducted on a once to twice a month basis per group or area coverage (barangays in CAR). Each session may range from building friendship and uniting all parents, sharing information, experiences and stories of each family, parenting ideas, to workshops, training courses and livelihood programs. In partnership with the DSWD-CAR, Heaven of Care Resource Center, implements the MCCT Program (Modified Conditional Cash Transfer Program) of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. Acting as one of the Board Members of HOC, I regularly give these free lectures to all these Cordillera voices needing and wanting to be heard, noticed, and accepted by society which is oftentimes discriminating, unmindful (and ignorant) of our cries.
